About The Unitarian Congregation of Taos: Our PurposeThe purpose of this congregation is to organize as a religious community which has at its heart these beliefs: a commitment to accept one another and encourage each others' spiritual growth; a recognition of the inherent worth and dignity of every person; a belief in the need for justice, equity and compassion in human relations; a commitment to a free and responsible search for truth and meaning; acceptance of the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregation; a desire to further the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; and a deep and abiding respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. Our HistoryThe Unitarian Congregation of Taos held its first service on May 8, 2005. We have grown from a small core group of interested individuals to a viable and growing congregation. Our first service was in the Taos Jewish Center followed by a time in a hogan and now at the Ranchos Presbyterian Church. In September 2008, we held our Charter Service in which we welcomed our firs official founding members. On January 3, 2010, our first "Naming Ceremony" was held. Silas James Conn became the first official child welcomed into our congregation. Over 35 individuals have signed the Membership Book becoming official members of the congregation. Where We MeetWe meet at the Ranchos Presbyterian Church pictured here. Taos, New Mexico |
